My Social Media Hiatus – Never Again!

Day 24: Shoulda Woulda Coulda

Maybe you should have written more. Maybe you should have exercised more. Maybe you should have done something differently. Is there something in 2012 that you wish you could have should have would have done, but didn’t? What was it, and why didn’t you do it? Will you do it in 2013 to make up for 2012?

If there was one thing that I wish I had done more in 2012 (and 2011, and probably part of 2010 for that matter), it was keep up with all of my social media platforms.

Now the only one that I stuck with religiously over these past few years was Facebook, and that was mostly because I like “stalking” people and seeing what everyone is up to. But sadly I was tweeting only very sporadically, and that was usually because I was checking into Foursquare or posting an Instagram photo. And let’s not even talk about my actual blog, Prismatic Perspectives. Before the post I wrote on New Year’s Day I hadn’t written anything in over a year.

I’ve had the same ol’ excuses this whole time: grad school is eating up my time, and I just don’t have enough hours in the day to keep up with Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, my blog, Foursquare, Instagram, Diigo, etc. etc. etc. I do want to comment on Diigo for a second – I used to be so good at bookmarking posts and helpful articles on there, especially because I used a lot of the content for my PR writing classes. But that too, fell by the wayside, and I’m stuck with bookmarks that are already over two years old. Le sigh.

But 2013 is a whole new year, and I’m not falling into that hole any longer! Since the New Year, I’ve gotten back to tweeting fairly regularly, and gaining new followers as a result. I have yet to post again on Prismatic Perspectives, but my Project Reflect 12 posts on this blog have been keeping me busy and writing everyday. And I haven’t been bookmarking new things on Diigo as of late, but hopefully I’ll get into the routine of posting things the way I was doing so avidly back in 2010.

I have officially completed my first week of spring semester 2013, and I’ll admit that it has been getting harder to blog and tweet like I was over winter break, but I’m committed and will not accept failure. My social media hiatus is over and hopefully gone for good. I’m ready to join my friends and followers on the online space once more!
