I Appreciate my BFFL!

DAY FOURTEEN – Appreciation. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?

The one thing (or rather, person) that I have come to appreciate the most in the past year is my bestest friend of all time, Danielle Catona.

Danielle and I met in undergrad at The College of New Jersey. What’s funny is that we first met in our public speaking class, when we had to do speeches of introduction for one another. Little did we know that Danielle would use our story as an example every time she has taught public speaking since.

Over junior year of college, Danielle and I grew even closer, working on numerous group projects together and taking lots of Communication courses together. When it came time to graduate, we went to our respective graduate schools: I moved to Maryland, and she went over to Penn State. Even though we were apart, we still managed to talk on a regular basis, and even found time to see each other over winter and summer breaks.

Now that we are both well into our Ph.D. programs (I stayed at UMD, and she moved on to Rutgers) I appreciate her friendship more than ever. Especially in this past year alone, when I was going through relationship problems and issues with students, Danielle was always there for me, even if it meant late night calls at 2 a.m. (which doesn’t really matter, since the woman is an insomniac! :-P). I know I can always count on her to give the best advice, because she never seems biased or over emotional.

My friendship with Danielle means so much to me, and I hope she knows that. She is such a strong, intelligent, motivated woman, and I admire her ridiculous work ethic and drive. She is going to be an amazing scholar that is going places, and I can’t wait to witness the day she becomes famous in the health communication field. I’m so proud of her already.

I am super excited to be in New Jersey for several weeks, because this means I get to see Danielle in person. She is truly my bestest friend, my BFFL (best friend fo’ life!) and I can’t imagine my life without her.

Best Friends Fo' Life!!
