“Don’t Worry, I Think It Will All Work Out”

December 24 – Everything’s OK. What was the best moment that could serve as proof that everything is going to be alright? And how will you incorporate that discovery into the year ahead?

I can’t pinpoint the exact moment where I knew everything was going to be okay with me and Mike, but it was sometime in mid- to late-August.

I remember having dinner with my friend Jenn (for DC Restaurant Week – it was bangin’!) and talking about my relationship troubles. I was feeling unappreciated and didn’t know what to do. I don’t remember too much about the conversation, but I do remember Jenn telling me something like this: “I honestly believe that you and Mike love each other and are meant to be together. Don’t worry, I think it will all work out.”

Well lo and behold – that very weekend I went to NJ and had one of the best weekends I ever had with Mike. We didn’t even do anything special – it just seemed different between us. He was kinder and more considerate, and I was less crazy and neurotic. And we just enjoyed being us – being together, being happy. It was at that moment that I realized Jenn was right – I really do love this man, I want to be with him, and everything will be alright.

Fast forward to today – the New Year will mark us being together for 4 years and 6 months (cheesy, I know) and I couldn’t feel happier and more sure of my relationship. We joke that there is this curse surrounding us around May (we always seem to run into problems and drama then) so for 2011 I hope to break the curse and just remember what Jenn told me back in August: that I’m meant to be with him, and everything will be OK.
