December 4 – Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?
Going along with my previous post, I think I cultivated the most sense of wonder in my life by traveling outside of the country, especially when I was in Thailand.
As was relayed in a previous blog post I wrote, it was the combination of traveling all on my own and reading Eat Pray Love immediately after I came home that really got me thinking and reflecting. Immersing myself in a whole new culture and then applying Elizabeth Gilbert’s spiritual journey to my own life was a real wake up call as well as a learning experience for me. It made me realize that there is so much more outside of my little box of a life and that I needed to go outside of my comfort zone and explore what else is out there.
In a spiritual sense, I must admit that I have not been as religious as I have been in the past, and that my sense of organized religion has been fading. But my trip and reading of Gilbert’s book has made me come to the realization that I don’t need a particular religion to be considered spiritual and faithful – which, in many helps, helps to foster that sense of wonder and enlightenment.
