December 6 – Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
Being a full time graduate student, it is no surprise that I had a series of final presentations I had to make for my classes.
Getting such rave reviews about Prezi from my colleagues and friends, I decided to give this application a whirl. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Prezi, Wikipedia defines it as:
a web-based presentation application and storytelling tool that uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides. Text, images, videos and other presentation objects are placed on the infinite canvas and grouped together in frames. The canvas allows users to create non-linear presentations, where users can zoom in and out of a visual map.
Sounds cool, right? I was very excited to get started, but also very nervous as I heard that it can be a little confusing to use.
But a mere few hours later, after watching the tutorial videos and messing around with my canvas, I made a product worthy of presenting to my class.
You can view one of the Prezis I made this semester on the V-Day Campaign here. And as a disclaimer, I understand that I still have a lot of learning to do in terms of the full functionality of Prezi, but I thought it was a pretty good first try.
So as much as I love PowerPoint and am indebted to the program for getting me through many-a-presentation, I’m sorry, but I think we should just be friends. Looks like another program has wooed me and whisked me off into the sunset. 🙂
